In September 2011 Davies White Landscape Architects were chosen from over 100 design teams by The Historic Royal Palaces to develop design proposals for a new £1.5 million children's garden at Hampton Court Palace.
Davies White drafted in the help of design & communication company, Room60, leading arts charity, The House of Fairy Tales, contemporary garden designer Dan Lobb, artist and illustrator Josh Knowles and Architect James Bennett. The team was selected as a project finalist and the entry went onto to win a Landscape Institute Communication awards. The entry included fully illustrated proposals, an animated film, an interactive game and a full merchandising range.
We created a narrative for the project where a young girl called Bess and takes the visitor on a journey through the history and stories of Hampton Court Palace through the eyes and experiences of the Kings Beasts that have guarded the Palace for centuries. These heraldic creatures engage the children in a game of adventure and discovery that entices them into a fantastical world of the imagination where all is possible and nothing is quite as it seems.
