Davies White were commissioned to engage with the RSPB Conwy Nature Reserve visitors and run model making workshops with the local school children. The design had to factor in the case proximity to the reserves nesting birds and avoid generating too much noise. Taking the local birdlife as a starting point, we developed a design using natural locally sourced materials.

The play space includes bird nest viewing platforms, climbing walls, rocks and water areas, along with the practical necessities like access roads, parking, & delivery areas for the café and toilets. The RSPB took 18 months to secure the funds to build the play space and used a local contractor to do this once it was possible.

The biggest challenges were the various consents, these included Planning Permission, TPO’s, an Archaeological watching brief & Section 38 agreement.
