Davies White worked with Gerald Davies Ltd to create a destination skate park in Midsomer Norton. It has been visited by a high profile celebrity in the world of roller skating, Jean-Yves Blondeau, also known as Rollerman as part of a feature by the BBC Blue Peter TV show.
The visit was evidence of the nationwide appeal that the skate park has gained since opening last year. Rollerman is best known for his high speed exploits involving a suit covered with roller skate wheels which allows him to roll along on his stomach, arms, legs, hands or feet, or a combination of them. Jean-Yves and the Blue Peter Team were highly complementary of all aspects of the park that was designed by Davies White Ltd. They commented on the quality of the design, freedom from graffiti, and pride the local community take in the park. Local skaters campaigned for a new facility for several years, the design combined the best of a skate plaza and bowl, and covered an area of some 500sq.m.
A series of skate spaces ensures that large groups can be accommodated without conflict. The skate park has a large catchment area with skaters of all ages travelling some distance to visit the park. The project also included improvements to vehicle and pedestrian access routes and additional lighting, parking and traffic calming measures were included in our brief. It won a Children and Young People Now Service Award.
